City of Waterfalls Ma. Cristina Falls
The most prominent of the 26 waterfalls the city is famous of. It is the highest waterfalls in the Philippines and said to be highest in the world. It's beauty is visited by appointment these days but we are still priviledged to have it. Aside from its beauty, it is serving the whole of Mindanao as the main source of its electricity. Operated and managed by National Power Corporation, it supplied the whole region with hydroelectricity. But what is intriguing about it, is its story of romance and tragedy. It derived its name from two sisters, Maria and Cristina. They fell in love with two young men, but was bethrothed to another by their parents. To escape the wedding they jumped from the bridge on top of the falls and was never seen again. But the falls changed face and became a twin falls. It was believed that they remain there as a reminder of how love must be respected and the falls was named Maria Cristina Falls after them.

I wore the mestiza dress. This outfit was made popular by . . . mind you Mrs. Imelda Marcos, the lady with the thousand shoes. But it is still the best of filipina dresses and still represent the filipina woman. This was worned during the Spanish regime. The Philippines was under Spanish rule for over three centuries and Spanish traits are in our blood no matter how we disclaimed it. In Mindanao, they have not penetrated very well, because our people made a forminable stand. However, until these days, the Muslims still believed there is something to fight for. But that is another story. I just want to show how I look in a mestiza dress.
